Music
program for preschoolers -third grade
There is lots of fun to be had in the
“Share the Joy” program. Children are led in songs and games
to educate and entertain them. Gabriella plays guitar and uses colorful
posters
as children sing with her. Gabriella leads children in both familiar
and new songs and children participate in exercises and conversation
on song topics. Mr. “Old McDonald” has a soft spot for animals
and keeps bringing them home. How many? The children count or add them
depending on their age. In “Animal Walk”, children sing
and walk like ducks, camels, frogs and more! In the Muffin Man, children
sing along, choosing what kind of muffin each wants and addition and
subtraction is introduced regarding the number of muffins they have.
In all the song-games, music combines with learning: For the youngest
“Mr. Curly-Tail” teaches them about a squirrel and his exploits.
In “Pick a Bail of Cotton”, they act out picking all sorts
of fruits and vegetables. As children get older, educational themes
are more obvious. Singing “Somewhere over the Rainbow” or
“One Sun” leads children into a discussion about world peace
and oneness. A song about family can introduces a discussion about different
family configurations; each one, though different, is O.K.
Gabriella leads a special class in “Singing
our Way through the Numbers” for grades K-3. This Math through
Music program introduces counting, then basic addition and subtraction,
writing the numbers, pattern recognition and more. Gabriella leads this
program in public and private school settings, including the Creative
Arts in the Public School Program (CAPS) associated with the Durham
Arts Council. The program consists of 3 1-hour classes.
